Since its inception in 1981 along with the establishment of the college, the Department of English has been a centre of focused teaching and learning in English language and literature. The Department was formally set up with the commencement of the Undergraduate programme in 1993. The Postgraduate programme was sanctioned in 2016 which strengthened the Department towards achieving its goals. Being the only Postgraduate English Department affiliated to Kannur University in Wayanad district, its significance is beyond measure. We play a vital role in giving shapes to the dreams and aspirations of the student community of Wayanad, a district that is geographically and socially far from being the mainstream. Since its inception the department has been playing a key role in bettering the English education, augmenting the reputation of GCM and enhancing the employability and worldview of the students. Our students have become the ambassadors of the rich legacy and heritage of the culture and education imparted by Government College Mananthavady across the world. Our plan for future is to make this a Research Department so that this becomes a centre that is bustling with more academic activity and teeming with more energy.
